Shifting of files to new courts complex affects judicial work:
Judicial work at Patiala House District courts was affected as nearly 28 judges adjourned the hearing in nearly 1,000 cases because the records were being shifted to a new courts complex which would become operational from Sept. "Hearing in nearly one thousand cases were adjourned as the judicial files were being shifted to newly-constructed district courts complex at Saket. Due to this, litigants and witnesses, who came to attend the proceedings from far off places, faced tough time," a court staff said.
The sixth district courts complex at Saket, which would house trial courts of south-east and south districts of the national capital, would become operational from Aug-Sept. "The shifting of courts should be done during holidays, which would cause less difficulty to litigants," Ranjit Kumar Srivastava, who came to depose in a case all the way from Bihar, said.
Judicial files of 28 courts of two districts were shifted, which resulted into adjournment of hearings. Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia would inaugurate the new seven-storey building, having 80 courtrooms and 92 chambers for judges. It also have 666 lawyers' chambers and 128 residential houses for judges.
However, the public prosecutors of the courts, which would be shifted to the new complex, are unhappy over the alleged lack of proper office space for them. "Moreover, the courts at Saket cannot start functioning from Aug. as the case files of the state (Delhi government) have not been shifted," a prosecutor said. 42 civil and criminal trial courts of New Delhi, South and South-East districts were located in the Patiala House courts.
Now only New Delhi district will stay with the Patiala House complex and the courts of other two districts will be shifted to the new building at Saket.
