SC not contemplating videography of proceedings: CJI

SC not contemplating videography of proceedings: CJI Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan today said while a time may come when court proceedings are allowed to be video graphed, the Supreme Court was not contemplating any such measure at present. In a brief interaction with media persons on the sidelines of a function here, the Chief Justice said that to the rapid advancements in technology, video coverage of court proceedings might take place in India also, like in superior courts in Hong Kong and Canada. However, he declined to say by when this could become a reality. "Presently, the Supreme Court is not contemplating any such measure," he said in reply to a question. Asked about noted jurist V R Krishna Iyer's comment that an integral relationship between the bench and the bar, which was vital under the Constitution, was absent nowadays, the Chief Justice declined to express his views. Earlier, in his address during the Fourth K S Rajamony Memorial Public Law Lecture, he said "We have not reached the stage where electronic media has direct and substantial access to court proceedings, as is prevalent in some nations."
