National policy on prevention of drug abuse & illicit trafficking soon
The government will soon come up with a National Policy on Prevention of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. In an interview to All India Radio, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik said, the draft policy on drug abuse is already in the process of discussion. The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is being observed throughout the world today. This day is observed on the 26th of June every year to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has organised a programme on the occasion in New Delhi this evening. Minister for Human Resource Development, Communication and IT, Kapil Sibal will be the Chief Guest and Social Justice Minister Mukul Wasnik will preside over the function. Around 800 delegates from the States, departments of the Central Government, NGOs, experts and representatives of UN bodies will participate in the event.
In a message on the occasion, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said that families, schools, civil society and religious organizations can do their part to rid their communities of drugs.
