The petition seeking safety of women lawyers in the court was filed by the Advocate Indu Kaul in the Apex Court. This petition was in the wake of the recent murder of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council president Darvesh Singh Yadav. The petition also sought for the enquiry by CBI into the same.

The Supreme Court of India has refused to entertain the plea. A vacation bench consisting of  Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B R Gavai said that such type of specific petition could be filed before the jurisdictional high court. The bench granted liberty to the petitioner to approach the jurisdictional high court i.e. Allahabad High Court with the grievances.

Advocate Indu Kaul, through her petition, had also sought  directions to the Bar Council of India for the formulation of schemes to provide social security to the lady advocates in the court premises. In this regard, the court stated that a separate petition could be filed in the Supreme Court for seeking directions to Bar Council of India.
