Bloomsbury publications refuses to publish the book- 'Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story'

  • This book written by Monika Arora, Sonali Chitkara and Prerna Malhotra claimed to unfold the happenings and incidents during the Delhi riots which remained untold.
  • The Bloomsbury publications had decided to publish the book in September 2020, but this decision was met with heavy criticism by many of its own writers because of the contents of the book.
  • A pre-launch event was organised and was attended by Kapil Mishra, a political leader known to have instigated the Delhi riots. 
  • Because of the mentioned event, the Bloomsbury publications released a statement declaring its withdrawal of the book because of the pre-launch event and the guests who were invited which the house would not have approved.
  • There were a series of arguments and hue and cry over the house's decision to withdraw with support and criticism for the book poring on social media.
  • Another publication house Garuda Prakasha had then decided to publish the book.

  • In December 2019, the ruling government brought forward the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) which caused unrest especially among the Muslim community because of the Act's clauses on citixenship.
  • Following the announcement of the act, Delhi witnessed large scale riots and massive violence between the Hindus and Muslims.
