Madras High Court said the examinations of law colleges in Tamil Nadu, which were cancelled following the November 12 students clash here, will commence on December 10. In his oral observation during the hearing on a batch of writ petitions pertaining to the clash at the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College here, Mr Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla said a parent-teacher meeting would be held prior to the commencement of examinations. The college would get an assurance from the parents that their wards would not misbehave. There should be a parent-teacher meeting before the classes commenced after the examinations, the judge added. Chief Justice A K Ganguly, who headed the Bench, made it clear that the examinations should be held under strict vigil. The suggestions was made by Former Advocate General N R Chandran and Senior Advocate and Special Public prosecutor for CBI Cases N Chandrasekhar on different centres for the examinations apart from the college was accepted by the Bench which directed the Principal of the College to arrange for it. The Bench made it clear there should be adequate number of teachers. Classes would be held regularly, roll call followed, ID card issued to students, faculty and staff and only one entry for the college. While the Bench came down heavily on the part of the government’s lapses in providing facilities to the college and hostel and in filling vacant posts of teachers, the Chief Justice said the press need not report the exchanges between the Bench and the advocates for the welfare of the society. It can report only the orders of the court. The Bench also said the court will pass detailed orders on the petitions on December one.
