NATIONAL NEWS SUMMARIES


1.    First Indian Woman to be hanged to death

•    Shabnam will be the first woman who would be hanged in India after independence.
•    Shabnam and Saleem were having an affair. When, Shabnam’s family opposed to it, her whole family got wiped.
•    Initially se made it look like an attack had taken place from the outside, but later it was proved that she along with Saleem had killed her entire family in UP’s Amroha district.


2.    Protester sent a courier to Justice Ganediwala

•    150 condoms have been sent to Justice Ganediwala  by a political analyst Disha Trivedi in protest of the POCSO judgment given by her.
•    The protester had sent condoms to 12 different location, one of which was Justice Ganediwala’s chamber.
•    Justice Ganediwala had ruled that pressing of breasts of a child over her clothes is not sexual assault under POCSO.
•    “I cannot tolerate injustice”, said Disha Trivedi.

3.    Court’s verdict on MJ Akbar defamation case

•    Priya Ramani has been acquitted by the Court in a criminal defamation case filed against her by former Union Minister MJ Akbar.
•    This case was filed when she had raised her voice against the sexual harassment at workplace .
•    “Right of reputation cannot be protected at the cost of right of life and dignity of women”, ruled the Delhi Trial Court.


4.    Interim Transit Bail given to Nikita Jacob : Toolkit case

•    The Bombay High Court has granted Nikita Jacob an interim transit bail for 3 weeks.
•    Now, she has to approach a court in Delhi to apply for anticipatory bail.
•    Nikita Jacob is alleged of being one of the key conspirators in the toolkit case regarding the farmers’ protest.


5.    A nodal agency would be set up for telecom frauds : Govt

•    The Telecom Ministry has said that a nodal agency would be set up to deal with the cases of telecom fraud.
•    The nodal agency would be called ‘Digital Intelligence Unit’.
•    This would help India deal with digital frauds in an effective manner.

1.    The new Australian law will make Google and Facebook pay for content


•    The Australian government is set to pass a new media law.
•    Under this law, Google and Facebook would have to pay the media publishers in order to display their content.
•    This is being done to protect the public interest journalism in Australia.


2.    Flooding of streets of Myanmar with protesters

•    Tens of thousands of protesters and demonstrators have flooded the streets of Myanmar.
•    They are protesting against the military coup that overthrew the elected government.
•    The protesters are calling for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi who has been in detention ever since the coup happened.
