General Overview

  • Pinki Saini an 18 year old teen was strangled and brutally murdered by her father for eloping with a Dalit boy Roshan Mahawar aged 24.
  • The father of the deceased himself confessed and surrendered to the police after the killing.
  • This murder is being dubbed as a ‘gross negligence’ on part of the police despite police protection.

Background

  • Pinki Saini was forced to marry against her wishes by her father on February 16.
  • Shortly after few days of marriage she returned home only to elope with Roshan on February 21.
  • Due to fear of their lives, the couple moved Rajasthan HC on February 26 and received police protection.
  • The couple were taken to Jaipur to live as per their wishes by police however, they ran out of money and returned to Roshan's home in Dausa District.

Further Details

  • Upon learning the whereabouts of their daughter, the teen was abducted by her family members only to be murdered in the name of honour kiling.
  • The father of the deceased justified his act by saying that he killed to save the honour of his family which her daughter disgraced by eloping.

Conclusion

Whether the real reason behind the teen being murdered by her father was live-in relationship or for eloping with a Dalit boy, it is clear that the teen was murdered in the name of honour killing. As it is rightly said that there is ‘no honour in honour killings’.

Do you think that honour killing is a justified act ? And was there any serious negligence on part of the police?
