As An Institution, We Have The Highest Respect For Womanhood: Cji Sa Bobde Says Supreme Court Never Asked Rape Accused To Marry Victim

Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and comprising Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian were posed asking this question in the case.

The comments drew an irate reaction from a few quarters as it was interpreted as the top court thinking about marriage as some panacea for assault. 

A few women’s rights activists, prominent residents, learned people, journalists, and specialists kept in touch with Chief Justice Bobde requesting a conciliatory sentiment and a withdrawal of his comments. 

More than 5,000 individuals marked an appeal requesting that he even quit. 

COURT’S JUSTIFICATION 

A court official later named the analysis out of line, as per a PTI report, saying the remarks depended on "legal records" containing an endeavour of the charged that he would wed the minor young lady, a family member, when she turned 18. 

The Chief Justice said "there was finished distorting" on the matter. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, as well, said the court had posed the inquiry in an alternate setting. 

The Chief Justice said, "We didn't have any conjugal assault cases before us. I asked my siblings (passes judgment on sitting in the seat). They, as well, don't recall. This foundation, especially this seat, we have the most noteworthy regard for womanhood."
