Ex-DGP seeks contempt of court proceeding in police reforms case New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) Former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Prakash Singh, today urged the Supreme Court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the states of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Prakash Singh, who is the petitioner in police reforms case, sought contempt of court proceedings against both states for not implementing directions of the Supreme Court, dated September 22, 2006, in police reforms case. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveendran and Dalveer Bhandari today also indicated that the court may constitute a committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to monitor the progress made on the issue. Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, suggested the name of former Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti for heading the committee. The apex court had directed the Centre and all the states to set up police reforms commission and to separate the police departments, one dealing with the investigation of case and the other dealing with conducting of cases in the courts. The court had also directed that no police officers with less than two years tenure should be made DGP of the state. The court will hear the case after Holi vacations.
