42 CBEC officials got jobs through false caste papers New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) The Finance Ministry has found that 42 people have got jobs in the Central Board of Excise and Customs over the years by submitting false caste certificates. The officials submitted false certificates at the time of recruitment to get jobs that were reserved for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Out of these, 25 cases have been found in Chennai and Coimbatore regions and the investigations are pending at various levels, the finance ministry informed a Parliamentary Standing Committee. The ministry has also stated that many people have got promotions through false certificates as well and are now working in the rank of superintendent, inspector, administration officer and tax assistant. In many cases, the ministry said, these officials have taken stay from courts despite the fact that district and state authorities have found their certificates fake. The Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, which submitted its report to Parliament last week, asked the government to "initiate prompt action against an employee if the information sought in his case is not received from state government authorities within the stipulated period". Sources said that since the state governments do not cooperate in the verification of caste certificates or in investigation, the union government was unable to take disciplinary action against the accused.
