The Supreme Court stayed still further orders, the order of Madhya Pradesh High Court banning the sale and registration of motor bikes in the state till the grip for pillion rider is fixed in the middle of the two seats to ensure the safety of the pillion rider.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam stayed the impugned order of the High Court when counsel for the petitioner Automotive Manufacturers Association contended before the court that the impugned order was illegal and blanket ban on the sale and registration of the motor bikes in the state cannot be imposed as it will cause irreparable loss to the industry.
Presently, the grip is fixed behind the seat of the pillion rider which is not safe, it was contended.
