ORISSA HC SUSPENDED ORISA ASSEMBLY LADY MARSHAL MOVES AGAINST OHRC ORDER 12/24/2008 The Orissa High Court issued notices to former Orissa Assembly speaker Maheswar Mohanty, state Human Rights Commission, state Women Commission and state government on a petition filed by suspended Lady Marshal Gayatri Panda. Ms Panda has moved the High Court, praying for quashing the order of the OHRC for giving a clean chit to Mr Mohanty in a sexual harassment case. A division bench of the court comprising Justices I M Kudusi and B P Roy, while issuing the notices, adjourned the case to the week commencing from January 26. The state Human Rights Commission, probing into the sexual harassment charges, gave a clean chit in its August 7 order to Mr Mohanty, saying there was no evidence against him. Ms Panda in her petition had alleged that the Commission had taken up the case suo motto and had no jurisdiction to conduct inquiry into the matter. Ms Panda had said the findings of the Commission was arbitrary and prayed the court to quash it. UNI
