Kashmir: Lok adalts settles 276 cases 12/31/2008 Encouraged by the easy and early settlement of cases, pending for decades, more people are now approaching the Lok Adalats in the Kashmir valley, According to official reports, two Lok Adalats settled as many as 276 cases. Official sources said a Lok Adalat was held at Saddar Court premises, here where 577 cases were taken up for hearing.Ler 253 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 95,000 was awarded as compensation to the claimants.Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar presided over the Adalat during which a fine of Rs 1,16,650 was also realised on spot. Similarly a Lok Adalat was conducted at Munsiff Court, Pampore under the Chairmanship of Judicial Magistrate, in which 23 cases were taken up for hearing. Of these, 17 cases were settled amicably and a fine of Rs 2,300 realised on spot.UNI
