MADRAS HC: Farm Worker Moves For Compensation From ONGC 1/7/2009 A farm worker in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu has moved Madras High court, seeking compensation from the Public Sector Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) as his son had lost one of his testicles and suffered injury on his reproductive organ while answering nature’s call near an unmanned ONGC pumping station. Narayanasamy, in his petition, said his son met with the accident while attending the National Service Scheme (NSS) Camp at Perungadai village in Thiruvarur District on December 17. He said during the camp conducted by the Government Higher Secondary School in Pulivalam, his son Jayaprakash, studying in Standard XII in the school met with an accident when he went near the unprotected pumping station owned by the ONGC. As he suffered serious injuries, he was admitted a private hospital, where doctors removed one of the testicles, the petitioner said, adding his son was still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he had so far spent about Rs 1.20 lakh on the treatment. He said as the hospital was demanding Rs two lakh more and threatened to discharge his son before the completion of treatment, the court should direct ONGC to pay an immediate compensation of Rs two lakh. He also sought a direction to ONGC, District Collector, District Educational Officer and School Head Master to collectively pay him a total compensation of Rs ten lakh. The matter came up for hearing before Ms Justice K Suguna who ordered issue of notice to the respondents and posted the case to January 12. UNI
