SC To Hear Special Reference On Water Sharing With Haryana 1/9/2009 The five judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court will start hearing on March 2, special reference regarding the constitutional validity of the Punjab Termination of Agreement Act 2004 passed by Punjab state Assembly nullifying all agreement for sharing of water with Haryana. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam yesterday fixed March 2, for starting the hearing of the reference. Punjab is also facing allegation of overreaching the Supreme Court. It has been accused of not taking any interest in the completion of Satluj, Yamuna link canal while Haryana has been pressing for the completion of the canal at the earliest. Partap Singh Chautala, son of late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal has also filed a contempt of court petition against the state of Punjab as well as against the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. P C Jain has also filed a petition challenging the validity of the act. All the petitions will be heard together by a constitution bench as the petitions have already been referred to the bench. UNI
