Reservation Bill : BJP Threatens To Stir 14 Jan 2009, 0257 hrs IST, TNN JAIPUR: A day after former chief minister Vasundhara Raje shot a letter to the governor S K Singh regarding immediate clearance of the Rajasthan Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Special Backward Classes, and Economically Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions in the State and of Appointments and Posts in Services Under the State,) Bill, 2008; the BJP on Tuesday announced that if the Bill is not cleared soon, the party will make it a public issue for the Lok Sabha elections. Warning that the BJP would be compelled to protest and agitate if the Reservations Bill is not cleared soon, deputy leader of the opposition Ghanshyam Tiwari on Tuesday demanded that the Congress should make its stand clear on the Bill. "We object to Congress treating the Raj Bhavan as Congress Bhavan and the governor as its political agent,'' he said. Addressing a press conference, Tiwari said, "He has to take some action soon, either clear it or send it to the President or simply return it with his comments, he cannot just sit over it,'' Tiwari added that in case, the governor has problems clearing it, then a special session of the assembly should be summoned to pass the Bill again. When asked if the BJP will support the Gujjars in their agitation or work in coordination with Col Bainsla, Tiwari said that the BJP, as a party, would support all communities covered under the Bill. "Any agitation for the clearance of this Bill, by any caste will get our support,'' he said. adding that he did not understand why had the governor also not cleared Bill regarding new universities in Bharatpur, Alwar and Sikar. Tiwari warned that if the governor did not react soon, another agitation on caste and reservation issues would be unavoidable. "And only Congress would be responsible if one more agitation grips the state,'' he warned.
