Guwahati HC Orders Probe On-to Killing Of Youth By Troops 1/14/2009 The Imphal Bench of Guwahati High Court directed the District and Sessions Judge of Manipur East to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Khumanthem Ajitkumar. Ajitkumar was killed by the personnel of Rajput Rifles on the intervening night of March 14-15 2004 here at Khurkhul Sekmai Road. The High Court has made it clear that the inquiry should be completed within six months. A division bench comprising of Justice T Nandakumar Singh and Justice Mutum Binoykumar Singh issued the direction following a Writ Petition filed by Khumanthem Nagor Singh, father of the deceased. It was alleged that Rajput Rifles stationed here at Leimakhong broke open the main door and barged into his house while they were fast asleep. The youth was taken away. Thereafter, they had lodged a written report with the Sekmai police station that Rajput Rifles carried out an ambush on Khurkhul Sekmai road. One suspected militant was found moving on the road and when they challenged, the militant opened fire. In the retaliatory firing Rajput Rifles personnel shot him dead. The present Writ Petition was filed at the initiative of Human Rights Law Network (Manipur). UNI
