SC allows Sanjay Dutt to go abroad for shooting 1/15/2009 The Supreme Court permitted Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt to go abroad for shooting assignment. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal directed the STF Mumbai to release his passport and asked the actor to surrender his passport latest by February 20 to the STF. The apex court directed Sanjay Dutt to file an undertaking within a week to the effect that he would return to India latest by February 20 and surrender his passport. Earlier, senior counsel F S Nariman appearing for the applicant submitted before the court that his client wanted to go to Bangkok and would surrender his passport to the authorities or on before February 20. Sanjay Dutt is on bail in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case and cannot leave the country without prior permission of the Supreme Court, where his appeal against conviction and sentence is pending. The actor has been sentenced to six years imprisonment under the Arms Act by the Tada Court Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt, who has been selected as Samajwadi Party candidate from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency, will have to get his conviction stayed to become eligible for contesting the election. The seat is presently held by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to the petition, he has also been appointed as goodwill ambassador by the United Nations. Additional Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam appearing for the CBI, however, did not oppose the plea of Sanjay Dutt. 1/15/2009 The Supreme Court permitted Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt to go abroad for shooting assignment.
