Madras HC Grants Bail To Film Director Seeman For Supporting LTTE 1/20/2009 Madras High Court granted bail to film Director Seeman and two others in connection with a case against them for supporting the banned LTTE. While granting the bail to Seeman, Kollathur Mani and Maniyarasu, Justice T Suthandiram directed them to appear before the police whenever required. The judge also directed them to produce two sureties for the sum of Rs 10,000 before the Judicial Magistrate Erode. After failing to secure bail from Lower Court in Erode District, film Director Seeman, Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) President Kollathur Mani and Maniyarasan had moved the Madras High Court. The three were arrested by the Erode Police for their pro-LTTE speech on November 19 and were remanded to judicial custody. They were lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison. Mr Seeman and others had moved the Local Magistrate Court twice and District Sessions Court once. But all courts rejected their plea. Film Directors Seeman and Amir were arrested in October by Rameswaram Police for similar offence. However, a local court released them on bail within a week on condition that they would not make any speech in support of LTTE. Before granting bail, the judge pointed out that Mr Seeman was released by a court in Rameswaram on condition that he would not speak in support of the banned outfit. But, the petitioner was violating the condition. How can the court grant him bail, the judge questioned. Senior counsel, Mr Duraisamy, who appeared for Seeman gave an undertaking that the accused would not repeat the mistake. UNI
