MP HC: Election Petition Admitted Against vidhan Sabha Speaker 1/22/2009 The Madhya Pradesh High Court admitted an election petition challenging the election of Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani from Jabalpur cantonment seat during the recently-concluded assembly polls. The petition -- filed by defeated Congress candidate Alok Mishra -- charged Mr Rohani with deploying corrupt practices, violating model code of conduct, using government machinery for publicity and resorting to booth capturing. The petition claimed that Mr Rohani had distributed cash among voters. Besides, his sons had captured 4-5 booths and manipulated electronic voting machines (EVM’s). Petitioner Alok Mishra said charged local administration, the Superintendent of Police and the Collector for not registering his complaints. Mr Mishra demanded that Mr Rohani’s election to state assembly be declared null and void. UNI
