MP HC Issues Notices On Encroachment At Chandra Sagar Lake 1/21/2009 The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government and Chhatarpur Collector for not removing illegal encroachment near Chandra Sagar lake and illegal allotment of pattas near pond area of Chhatarpur. Hearing a petition by Chhatarpur Bhaigatal village-based Ram Singh Yadav and two others, a division bench comprising Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice Pankaj Jaiswal issued notices to the Collector, tahsildar (Nazul) and other offices concerned and asked them to file reply within six weeks. The petition drew the attention of the court towards the government not taking action over encroachment near the bank of the lake. Petitioner’s counsel S D Gupta submitted that Nazul records showed 1.25 acre land of Chandra Sagar lake being vested with the government. In 1885, the erstwhile Bundelkhand ruler had divested the ownership of lake to the Centre. With the formation of Madhya Pradesh in 1956, the ownership was transferred to the government. The petition requested to remove all encroachment at the banks. UNI
