Headline: Deshdrohi screening: SC to hear Maharashtra's plea tomorrow Dated: 23 Jan 2009 Source: UNI The Supreme Court today declined to pass any order on the plea of the state of Maharashtra seeking a stay against the order of Bombay High Court lifting the ban on the release of the controversial Hindi movie 'Deshdrohi'. A bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and G S Singhvi, however, will hear the appeal of the state government tomorrow. The Bombay High Court had lifted the ban on the release of the movie in the state on January 9. The movie is scheduled to be released in the state tomorrow. The High Court had earlier stayed the release of the movie in the state for two months in November and the ban was up to January 11. Solicitor general G E Vahanvati, appearing for the state government, prayed to the court to stay the operation of the order of the High Court till the final disposal of the appeal filed by the state government. The state government has been opposing the release of 'Deshdrohi', which is based on the violent agitation launched by MNS chief Raj Thackeray against north Indians living in the state. According to the Maharashtra government, the release of the movie will create serious law and order problem in view of the emotionally charged atmosphere in the state. The movie has been produced by Kamal Khan, who is also in the lead role. The movie has already been released in other parts of the country. The High Court in its impugned order had noted that the Maharashtra government has not been able to produce any intelligence feedback to substantiate its apprehension of serious law and order problem in the state in case the movie is released. The movie showed the agitation launched by Raj Thackeray and his goons against North Indians especially people of Bihar
