Terrorists are not humans, they are animals: SC judge

New Delhi: The third most senior judge Arijit Pasayat of the Supreme Court has said terrorists are animals and rubbished the case of human rights violations in dealing with terrorists. Pasayat made a rare and scathing attack against terrorists and terrorism at a public forum. Addressing a seminar on terrorism, Pasayat said, “We should not talk of the human right violation of terrorists. They kill innocent people with AK-47s and AK-56s. They are not humans. They are animals.” This is for the first time that a sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India has made such strong comments. And it is an issue which may come before Pasayat for his consideration too. In the past, Justice Pasayat has made no bones about issues like students’ elections in universities and destruction of public property during bandhs. Justice Pasayat may have voiced popular sentiment on the issue but lawyers are critical of this statement.
