The Kerala High Court adjourned to February 2 a petition seeking declaration that no sanction was required in prosecuting the accused in the SNC Lavalin case, including former Electricity Minister and CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, for hearing the Advocate-General (AG). A Division Bench of Justices J B Koshy and V Giri directed the AG to enlighten the court whether sanction was necessary or not. The petition was filed by a Kannur-based social organisation, People’s Council for Civil Rights. The Bench had closed another petition filed by Crime magazine Chief Editor T B Nandakumar seeking direction to complete the investigation within a time-frame. The court closed the proceedings stating that CBI had completed the investigation and filed a report to that effect. The Bench also observed that it was not opening the sealed cover in which the report was submitted as it was unnecessary as the proceedings were closed.
