SC: Woman throws footwear at Justice Arijit Pasayat Four persons, facing contempt of court proceedings, were sentenced to three month’s simple imprisonment after a woman in the group threw her footwear at Supreme Court judge Arijit Pasayat, in the court room. Mr Justice Pasayat, who was hearing the case along with Mr Justice A K Ganguly, managed to save himself by ducking. He continued with the hearing even after the attack and passed the sentence for showing disrespect to the Court as well as on the contempt issue. The petitioners, running the Boss music school in Mumbai, were facing a case in Mumbai High Court that they were practicing black arts and had been allegedly subjecting school children to physical harassment. They had invited contempt of court proceedings by making adverse remarks about judges. Earlier, the woman who threw the slipper at the judge, identified as Leila David, along with Annette Kotian and Pavithra Murali and a man, had kept on shouting despite having been told by the bench to calm down. Finally, the judges called for the registrar of the court to control them. When some lawyers present in the courtroom tried to pacify them, David threw the slipper at the judge. UNI
