The Supreme Court adjourned by two weeks the hearing of the appeal of the Income Tax Department, Mumbai against the judgment of the Bombay High Court granting exemption of 30 per cent to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan in Income Tax on his income.

The Bombay High Court had allowed the petition filed by the superstar seeking exemption of 30 per cent on the grounds that since he was an artiste, he was entitled to a rebate of same in the Income Tax on his income.

A bench comprising Justices S K Kapadia and Aftab Alam adjourned the hearing at the request of the Income Tax Department.

The department had filed this appeal after the expiry of the period of limitation, which was 90 days and would have to explain the delay in filing the appeal to the Supreme Court.
