The Supreme Court issued notice to Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on a petition filed by the Income Tax department, challenging the Bombay High Court order allowing 30 per cent exemption on his income.
Bachchan had filed a writ petition, seeking 30 per cent exemption on his income on the ground that he was an artiste.
A bench headed by Justice S H Kapadia issued the notice and fixed October 28 as the next date of hearing.
The court pulled up the Income Tax department for allowing Big B to withdraw an amount of over Rs six crore by not challenging the Bombay High Court order in time.
The apex court has also directed the Income Tax department to explain the delay in filing the appeal.
