SC permits admission tests for AMU at 4 centres The Supreme Court has permitted the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to conduct admission tests for its professional courses at four different centres in the country apart from Aligarh, said a press release from the university. Earlier, following a controversy over this issue, the AMU had sought the permission of the SC for conducting its admission tests at centres in Bhopal, Kolkata, Pune and Kozihode. The above issue had arisen following certain objections raised by some members of the AMU Executive Council regarding the legality of this move in view of the fact that the admission policy of the university is presently bound by a status quo order of the Supreme Court dated 24th April 2006. A three member bench of the apex court, consisting of Chief Justice of India Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice R V Raveendran and Justice Mukundaran Sharma, issued the order on Tuesday. The Aligarh Muslim University was represented by Soli J Sorabji, senior advocate and Ejaz Maqbool. According to the AMU's registrar, Prof V K Abdul Jalil, the university is now making necessary arrangements to go ahead with the admission process as per its original schedule.
