MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday ordered notice to the Election Commission on a public interest litigation petition seeking to permit the use of the ration card as a proof of identity while casting votes.

A Division Bench, comprising Justice V. Periya Karuppiah and Justice G.M. Akbar Ali, also directed the Chief Electoral Officer in Tamil Nadu to reply to the petition filed by a town panchayat councillor from Pullambadi in Tiruchi district. — Staff Reporter
