Women's reservation Bill may be tabled in ongoing Parl session The women's reservation Bill may see the light of the day with the government expressing its keenness to table it in Parliament in the ongoing budget session. This was told to a CPI delegation by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when they called on him today. After the meeting, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told reporters " the government plans to bring the bill in this session, the Prime Minister told us." Singh said he was keen and would be discussing the matter in the cabinet to finalise the modalities, Bardhan added. The Women's Reservation Bill, which aims to set aside one-third of seats in Parliament and state assemblies for women, has been hanging fire for a long time due to opposition from certain parties who want special quota-in-qouta for women from backward and minority communities.
