No dilution in Women Reservation Bill: Govt

The government has ruled out any dilution in the Women's Reservation Bill which seeks to ensure 33 percent seats for women in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.

"There is no question of dilution. It is hypothetical", Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal told reporters at New Delhi on Wednesday when asked about the talk of dilution of the Bill by pegging the reservation ceiling to 20 percent.



Replying to a volley of questions on the issue, he said the government to try and arrive at a consensus on every piece of legislation.



He said President Pratibha Patil had in her address to the joint sitting of Parliament informed that the Bill was one of the priority agenda of the government.

The Bill is before the Standing committee of Parliament which is soon to be reconstituted and government would await its report.

Govt having relook at Bill to prevent communal violence

Government is having a relook at a bill which seeks to provide more teeth to both the Centre and states to prevent and control communal violence.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy told reporters that the government wanted to give "another thought" to the Bill following reservations by some NGOs.



"It is being looked into," he merely said when asked about the fate of the Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill which has already been passed by the Union Cabinet.
