Baba Ramdev moves SC against homosexuality

S K Gupta, spokesman of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the July 2 judgment of Delhi High Court decriminalising homosexuality between adults with mutual consent.

The High Court had advised the government to suitably amend section 377, IPC to decrimininalise consensual act of homosexuality between adults.

The petitioner prayed to the apex court to set aside the judgment as such sexual acts will have corrupting effect on the culture and ethos of Indian society.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing on July 20 along with another petition filed by an astrologer Suresh Kumar Kaushal on which notices have already been issued to the Union Government and Naaz foundation, on whose petition the High Court judgment came.

The apex court will also consider the prayer of the petitioners for stay of the impugned judgment till the final disposal of the petition.
