Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan emphasised the need for speedy trial saying judges should ask relevant questions only.

Justice Balakrishnan said the judges should have fair knowledge of law and should ask ‘relevant questions’ only.

The CJI said this at the First National Justice Academy Zonal Judicial Conference on Enhancement of Timely Justice for East Zone held at Indian Institute of Coal Management (IICM).

He said that during trial at the lower courts, eye witnesses should be accorded priority.

Chief Justices from Patna, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, West Bengal and Ranchi also were present on the occasion.
