The Karnataka Federation of Advocates condemned the unruly incidents in a court hall of Karnataka High Court on November 9, in which newspersons were assaulted and judges heckled by a section of advocates.

Addressing a press conference here Chairman of the Federation Subba Reddy strongly demanded the resignation of Bangalore Advocates Association President Putte Gowda.

Charging that Mr Gowda, had led a group of young lawyers into the court hall where Chief Justice P D Dinakaran was hearing a case, he said Putta Gowda should also own up responsibility for the unsavoury incidents in the Court premises.

He also disapproved the conduct of some advocates who had barged into court halls and prevented judges from discharging their duties.

He said a group of unruly advocates brought down the image of Karnataka Bar Association (KBA), which had been maintaining high principles and morals during its 100 year existence.

Mr Reddy said Karnataka Bar Council, had convened a meeting of senior counsels on November 14, in which the issue of seeking the resignation of Mr Putte Gowda would be raised, he said.

He also appealed the Bench not to pursue contempt proceedings against the Advocates Association in the interest of smooth functioning of the Judiciary. ‘Both the members of Bar and Council should work together in the interest of delivery of justice to common litigants’ he said.
