Honorary doctorate for CJI

 The Chief Justice of India has joined the list of people bestowed with an honoris causa (honorary) doctorate by Mysore University.Others who have achieved the distinction include Jawaharlal Nehru, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, Rajendra Prasad, Sir M Visvesvaraya, V K Krishna Menon and Nobel laureate S Chandrashekhar. On Saturday, governor H R Bhardwaj presented the doctorate at Raj Bhavan to CJI Balakrishnan during theuniversity's 83rd annual convocation, recognizing service in the field of judiciary. The governor also released a book by advocate Arun Mohan titled `Justice, Courts and Delays'. "It is increasingly understood by everyone that law and justice have a direct bearing on economic growth of a nation, as well as social welfare of the people. Substantive law must recognize behavioural patterns," he added.
