Fracas At Airport: British Citizen Surrenders To Police 11 Feb 2009, 1949 hrs IST, PTI Text: THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A British citizen, who created a ruckus at the international airport here last week, surrendered before police, which had received flack for "security lapse" after it let him off initially. Ahammad Muhammad Al Jalal, a British citizen of Egyptian origin had allegedly beaten up security personnel while in an inebriated condition on his arrival here from Dubai last week. Al Jalal, who arrived here with a Keralite businessman friend, was arrested and let off immediately after the incident by police, who charged him with some minor offences. However, the CISF, in charge of airport security and the Intelligence Bureau, took objection to the manner in which the case was handled by local police. The case snowballed into a major controversy with the local media reporting that Al Jalal was let off at the intervention of persons close to some influential ruling party politicians. Police had yesterday searched an elite club in the city and the home of the Keralite businessman. Al Jalal (30), in his statement to police, claimed that he came to Kerala for business purposes and that it was security personnel who started the trouble. Meanwhile, Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandan said he will look into the reports suggesting involvement of relatives of some ministers in the case.
