Mangalore Mayor Serves Legal Notice To Renuka Chowdhury 12 Feb 2009, 1649 hrs IST, PTI Text: MANGALORE: Mangalore City Corporation Mayor and five others have served a legal notice on union minister for women and child development Renuka Chowdhury demanding an apology for her statements 'tarnishing' the image of the city. Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu (BJP) and five others have decried the statements made by the minister, while reacting to the kidnapping of CPM MLA's daughter, that "Mangalore has been Talibanised". The daughter of Kerala MLA from Manjeshwar C K Kunhambu and her Muslim male friend were briefly kidnapped from a bus in Mangalore on February 6 by suspected saffron activists. They have asked the minister to withdraw her statements about Mangaloreans and tender an apology within three days of receipt of the notice, advocate Padma Prasad Hegde, who served the notice, said. "The people of this coastal city have boundless love for their motherland and the word "Taliban" and "Talibanisation" refers to terrorists," the notice stated. Renuka's statement has degraded the entire community of Mangalore as anti-nationals, it said. The notice has been served to the minister through e-mail, he said.
