Sayed Mohammad Hanif Abdul Rahim and his wife Fahmida Sayed from the city today became the first couple in the history of Indian Judiciary to be convicted for terrorism under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). The ‘most notorious couple’ was convicted for executing the 2003 Mumbai twin blasts that killed 54 people and injured hundred others, by a special POTA court. Earlier, the designated TADA court had convicted members of the Memon family, which had masterminded the 1993 serial blasts in the Metropolis. The TADA court had tried three couples -- key absconding accused Tiger Memon’s parents Razak Memon and his wife Hanifa Memon, his brother Yakoob Memon and Raheen Memon besides Suleman Memon and his wife Rubina Memon. Out of the three couples, the court had only convicted Yakoob Memon and Sulemans wife Rubina Memon.
