The Madras High Court on Thursday posted for August 27 a petition seeking a writ of quo warranto direction against an advocate to explain under what authority he held the office of the Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The petition related to a reported remark by Justice R. Regupathi while hearing an anticipatory bail application by a doctor and his medico son, who were wanted by the CBI.

When the petition filed by Elephant G. Rajendran, also an advocate, came up before Justices F.M.Ibrahim Kalifulla and R.Banumathi, the Bench asked the petitioner about the authenticity of his statement that the judge had made the remark. The Bench directed that the petition be numbered and posted it for next Thursday.
