SC Orders Status Quo In Residential Areas Of Aravalli Hills 2/14/2009 The Supreme Court ordered status quo in the residential areas of Aravalli Hills in Faridabad, Haryana. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia ordered the parties to maintain status quo till further order. With today’s order there would be no demolition or fresh construction in the residential areas around Badkal Lake, Surajkund and Kant Enclave. The apex court also separated the mining issue in Aravalli Hills from the issue of residential areas and directed the parties to ascertain whether construction is unauthorised or not from the official map. The petitioner submitted that more than 2000 crushers and large number of people are unemployed due to the stoppage of mining. Amicus curie (friend of court) Harish Salve retorted by saying that there is a question of 12.5 million people as Delhi will itself become a desert if mining in Aravalli Hills is permitted. UNI
