Dr. TAMMA SURYANARAYANA SASTRY

    Dr.T.S.N.Sastry is currently Professor & Head in the Department of Law, University of Pune.  Before joining in the University of Pune on Invitation, he was the Prof & Head, Department of IPR and Dean (Academic & Planning) in the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar University of Law, Chennai.

Birth and Educational Details

  Dr.Sastry was born on 12.8.1961 at Palasa, Srikakulam District in Andhra Pradesh, India. 

• He is the First recipient of Ph.D., degree in International Law from the Faculty of Law, Andhra University (1996) for his work on State Succession and Indian Courts: A Critical Study. The above work of Dr. Sastry was one of the entries to the Paul Guggenheim Prize for International Law, 2002 of the Paul Guggenheim Institute of International Relations, Geneva.
• He secured his Masters of Law  (M.L.) degree in International Law from the Faculty of Law, Andhra University (1987) with high second class (56.5%).During the two year Period he studied papers of Public International Law of Peace, International Organisations, Private International Law, Law of the Sea and submitted a dissertation consisting of research papers on Regional Organisations working under the UN Charter for Collective Security; Violations of Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Immunities and Privileges; Adoption in Private International Law and The structure, Powers and Functions of the International Sea Bed Authority . 
•  He successfully completed a Diploma in International Organizations (1986) from the Institute of United Nations Studies, New Delhi (1986) again with high second class (56%).
• He obtained his LL.B., degree from Berhampur University (1984) with high second class (61%) with specialization of International Law.
• He received his under-graduate degree in B.A. in Economics, with Political Science and Sociology as Ancillaries from Andhra University in 1981 with a second class (50%).

Professional Experience:

• Dr.Sastry is Possessing 23 years Post Graduate Teaching and around 4 years Undergraduate Teaching Experience in Law.
• He is professor in the Post Graduate Department of Law, University of Pune, since April 16,2009
• He was the Professor IPR in the Post Graduate Departments and Research Development, (January 2007-April 15, 2009) in the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.
• He was the Professor in International Law in the Post Graduate Departments and Research Development (During September 2006 –January 2007) in the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
• He was Professor in the School of Excellence in Law in the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University Chennai (March 15-Sept21, 2006).
• He Served as Reader (27-7-98- March14, 2006) in the Department of Political Science, in the International Studies, Pondicherry University, (Central University).
•  Coordinator of UGC Centre for Human Rights, he was imparting Human Rights Education from 1999-2006 to the P.G., Diploma in Human Rights and to Post Graduate Students at Pondicherry University.
• He served as Lecturer (1 Nov 1988-26.7.1998) in the School of International Studies Pondicherry University,  during November 1, 1988-26.7.98, where in taught, International Law, International Organisations, Constitution of India to M.A. students and Business Laws and other allied laws to students of Masters of International Management.
• He was Lecturer in Sir C.R.R. Law College, Eluru (March 88-Oct 88) handling undergraduate classes in Law.
• Dr. Sastry started his teaching career as a Guest Faculty in the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi during July-December in 1987, while pursuing his M.phi/Ph.D., Programme in JNU.

Administrative Experience:

• Head of the Department of Law University of Pune ( From June 2009 onwards)
• Dean (Academic & Planning) (March-2008-April2010 until the expiry of lien from the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
• Head, Department of IPR in Post Graduate Departments & Research at TNDALU, Chennai (January 2007-15 April 2009).
• Head, Department of International Law & Organizations in the Post Graduate Departments & Research at TNDALU.
• Controller of Examinations, at TNDALU ( 21.9 2006 to 9.2 2007).
• Director, School of Excellence in TNDALU (15.3.2006 to 20.9.2006)
• Coordinator to the UGC Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education (June 1999- March,2006) at Pondicherry University. As Coordinator he was responsible for the establishment of the Centre in the University and introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights and Duties Education both in regular stream and through Correspondence course. He was also responsible for the launching of the Ph.D., Programme in Human Rights.

 Visit to Foreign Universities/Institutes: Research/Academic Awards

• Dr. Sastry is selected as the Eramus Mundus External Window Lot 13 as Academic Staff exchange fellow by the European Commission to Visit the University of Lund for a period of one month before Sept 2010 for his Project on Human Rights of Vulnerable Groups especially trafficking in Women and Children in the Indo-European Context.  Dr Sastry will be leaving on July1,2010 to complete the project.

• Dr. Sastry visited the Maison Des Sciences DeL'Homme, the University of Nantes and the University of Paris 13 fully funded by the Maison Des Sciences Del Homme of the Ministry of Education, Government of France under the Fellow Exchange Programme in December 2006 for a fortnight. The entire trip was funded by the Government of France.

• Vijaya Shree Award received from the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi in June 2005 for his contribution for the Promotion of Human Rights Education.
