Section : Act to be in addition to and not in derogation of other laws relatingto contempt.

22. Act to be in addition to and not in derogation of other laws relating to contempt.The provisions of this Act shall be in addition to, and not in derogation of, the provisions of any other law relating to contempt of courts.

The expression “not in derogation of” is intended to mean that substantive powers of contempt cannot be abrogated by the Act.—High Court of Karnataka v. Y.K. Subanna 1990 Cr LJ 1159
