306. Issue of certificates to foreign ships in India and Indian ships in foreign countries. (1) The Central Government may, at the request of the Government of a country to which the Safety Convention applies, cause an appropriate safety convention certificate to be issued in respect of a ship 1*[registered or to be registered] in that country, if it is satisfied in like manner as in the case of an Indian ship that such certificate can properly be issued, and, where a certificate is issued at such a request, it shall contain a statement that it has been so issued. (2) The Central Government may request the Government of a country to which the Safety Convention applies, to issue an appropriate safety convention certificate 2*[in respect of a ship registered or to be registered in India] and a certificate issued in pursuance of such a request and containing a statement that it has been so issued shall have effect for the purpose of this Act as if it had been issued by the Central Government.
