National highways to vest in the Union.
4. National highways to vest in the Union. All national highways shall vest in the Union, and for the purposes of this Act "highways" include- (i) all lands appurtenant thereto, whether demarcated or not; (ii) all bridges, culverts, tunnels, causeways, carriageways and other structures constructed on or across such highways; and ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 15th April, 1957, vide Notification No. S.R.O. 1180, dated the 4th April, 1957 see gazette of India 1957, Pt. The Act comes into force in Pondicherry on 1.10.1963 vide Reg. 7 of 1963, s. 3 and sch. I Extended to and brought into force in the state Sikkim (w.e.f. 28-6- 1975) Vide Notifin No. S.O. No. 276(E), dt. 26.6.1975 Extended to Goa, Daman and Diu with modifications, by Reg 12 of 1962, s. 3 & Sch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 196 (iii) all fences, trees, posts and boundary, furlong and mile stones of such highways or any land appurtenant to such highways.
