Section : Oath or affirmation.

7. Oath or affirmation. (1) Every member before taking his seat shall make and subscribe at a meeting of the Council an oath or affirmation according to the following form, namely:-- "I, A.B. having been nominated as a member of Council do swear in the name of God/solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter." (2) If a person sits or votes as a member before he has complied with the requirements of sub-section (1), he shall be liable in respect of each day on which he sits or votes as the case may be, to a penalty of three hundred rupees to be recovered as arrears of tax under this Act.
