THE NATIONAL HIGHWAYS ACT, 1956 ACT NO. 48 OF 1956 [11th September, 1956.] An Act to provide for the declaration of certain highways to be national highways and for matters connected therewith. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:- 1. Short title, extent and commencement. (1) This Act may be called the National Highways Act, 1956. (2) It extends to the whole of India. (3) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
