An Act to provide for the safety, health and welfare of dock workers and for matters connected therewith. Be it enacted by Parliament in the Thirty-seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:--

SECTION 01: SHORT TITLE, EXTENT, COMMENCEMENT AND APPLICATION

(1) This Act may be called the Dock Workers (Safety, Health and Welfare) Act, 1986.

(2) It extends to the whole of India.

(3) It shall come into force on such date1as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

(4) It shall not apply to any ship of war of any nationality.
