Section : UNAUTHORISED SALE OF SPIRITUOUS LIQUOR OR INTOXICATING DRUG

SECTION 56: UNAUTHORISED SALE OF SPIRITUOUS LIQUOR OR INTOXICATING DRUG

If within a cantonment, or within such imits adjoining a cantonment as theb[Central Government] may by notification in theb[Official Gazette] define, any person not subject toc[Army, Navy or Air Force law] or any person subject toc[Army, Navy or Air Force law] otherwise than as a military officer or a soldier knowingly barters, sells or supplies, or offers or attempts to barter, sell or supply, any spirituous liquor or intoxicating drug to or for the use of any soldier or follower or soldier's wife or minor child without the written permission of thea[Officer Commanding the station] or of some person authorised by thea [Officer Commanding the station] to grant such permission, he shall be punishable with fine which may extend tod[five hundred rupees], or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with both.OBJECTS AND REASONS Act 15 of 1983, Clauses 36 and 37.- Sub-clause (a) of clause 36 and sub-clause (a) of clause 37 seek respectively to amendsection 56andsection 57of the Act consequent on the amendment tosection 3of the Act to declare places occupied by naval station? As cantonments (vide clause 3). Sub-clause (b) of clause 36 and sub-clauses (b) and (c) of clause 37 sleek respectively to amendsection 56andsection 57so as to enhance the fine prescribed for the offences as the existing fine is considered inadequate in view of the espalation in prices.- Gaz. of Ind.. 9-7-1982, Pt.
