False claims regarding campus placements

Hello,

I need your help. I need to know whether false claims by an Educational Institution regarding placements is covered under Consumer Protection Act, when student is paying Fee specially for Placements ?

At first glance it appears as Institution is asking Charges for Service (Placement) but they are not delivering it.

My senior batch paid Rs 2500 each for the placements in Final semester but out for 50 students only 3 got the Campus Placements and those placements which occured were in completly  unrelated fields opposed to the specialization of the candidates.

One more question...

Where to complain regarding the corruption in Central Government Educational Institutions ?

Please guide me regarding this matter...

You have started an important and interesting discussion.

It shall be appropriate to conclude

-Whether the institution has collected a fee in the name of service charges for ensuring placement? :
Whether any circular/letter/advertisement/insertion in prospectus/statement on web site or internet/intranet  etc has been issued to this effect? If yes is the copy available?

Has the receipt been issued, for the payment collected, and if yes what is stated in the receipt or under which head the amount is collected?

If there is any kind of declaration to tender fee, then what is stated in the declaration e.g. the amount is towards making arrangements/inviting companies/for providing the premises to facilitate interviews/ providing counseling for preparing for interviews/.........etc? Is there any guarantee that student paying fee shall get placed?

Usually institutions may highlight the track record in placement.

It is absolutely discretion of the student to appear for any other specialization and/or accept/decline employment in any other specialization.

Apparently if service charge/fee is collected and service is not rendered, it should fall in the ambit of deficiency in service.

If there is any default by the institution, complaints can be lodged with the Govt. agency which has granted recognition and university under which it falls.

Valuable advice of learned experts/members is sought.

AICTE is the govt. agency appointed by the UGC which gives accreditation and  supervises performance of these institutions, besides concerned University, which recoginises these courses/degree. The University has appointed grievance cells under UGC guidelines for redressal of grievances fof the students and the VCs are the heads of these cells.

The procedure followed is almost qusi judicial like and a proper hearing is given to both the sides and the minutes are recored. The decision of the VC in the matter is binding and goes against institution at the time of revision of accreditation of the institution which takes place yearly. The forms of complain are available with the office of registrars of the University, which need to be filledin with some nominal fee(Rs.10) with five sets of the same. The notice will be served on the institution and you will also have a full opportunity to put forth your grievance. It is worth trying.

*Institution has collected a fee in the name placement Charges in final semester and complete breakup of fee is available in prospectus.

*Institution has worst track record of Placements on the ground but the Result Framework Document prepared for Ministry says 80% placement which is completly falsifying the facts.

*Institution is established under parliament Act so it does not falls under Jursdection os AICTE or UGC. It is a Deemed Univerity. You can search for NIPER on google.

*A student who learns pure Organic Chemistry for whole two years and institute calls a BPO/KPO for plaement and it assumes it as placement of student (3 out of 50, rest are still sitting at home).

*This is situation at a National Institute to which Government call Centre of Excellence .
